Nestled just 5 kilometers west of Auckland’s bustling city center, Westmere is a hidden gem for those seeking a balance of urban convenience and serene living. As someone who has spent years in this vibrant area, I can confidently say that Westmere provides an exceptional quality of life. Its village, views, spacious parks, and welcoming community make it an ideal place to raise a family. The suburb is perfectly positioned for outdoor enthusiasts, with a wealth of walking and cycling tracks, including the scenic Westmere Coastal Walk that hugs the picturesque shoreline. Take in spectacular sunsets from my favourite spot in Auckland - Cox's Bay.

Westmere families benefit from a range of educational options, with popular schools like Westmere School and nearby Western Springs College easily accessible, with buses to private schools passing through daily.

One of the things I love most about Westmere is its proximity to nature. Western Springs Park, a mere stone’s throw away, is perfect for weekend picnics, leisurely walks, or a family outing to the adjacent Auckland Zoo. Cox’s Bay Reserve, with its expansive fields and playground, is another local favorite, offering plenty of space for both kids and adults to enjoy the outdoors. The local West End Tennis Club and Cox’s Bay Yacht Club provide additional recreational options for sports enthusiasts.

 

The suburb’s dining scene is a highlight, featuring local favorites that attract residents and visitors alike. Westmere Butchery is a longstanding community staple, known for its premium cuts and friendly service, while Catroux is a go-to café for its cakes and seasonal fare. Seabreeze Café offers a relaxed setting with fantastic coffee and brunch options. For those with a love for a mouth-watering share plate, Ragtag's hand made duck fat tortillas will have you coming back time & time again.  And for wine enthusiasts, Glengarry’s Westmere provides an exceptional selection of fine wines, craft beers, and spirits, perfect for special occasions or casual gatherings.
